The part between the stars is a definition of “what’s up” copied from urban dictionary. I agree it a lot cause it really annoyed me when I just came to US. Some one throw this question to me and I just didn’t get it, I didn’t know what should I reply to it. So far as I know, “what’s up” is the short for “what’s the update”. “Nothing new” is definitely a good answer or just “what’s up” back. In China, people also has some same shit as “what’s up”, “最近怎么样”, like “how’s going recently”. It’s always hard to answer cause nothing’s new and I hate to hear such thing but when I meet some people and that’s the first sentence come out. “一样”(“Same”) is a funny answer that I like, kind of a Chinese word joking.
PS: SSDD short for Same Shit Different Day.

what’s up 661 up, 107 down love it hate it
An extremely annoying question that has (unfortunately) replaced “Hello” or “Hi” as the most popular form of casual greeting. For full effect, best delivered while walking past someone at about 90 m.p.h. so the person you’re talking to has no time to respond, and in a tone that suggests you really don’t give a shit about “what’s up” with them.
Dude #1: “Hey, man. What’s up?”
Dude #2: “Uh…” (what he managed to get out before Dude #1 was already too far away to hear the rest of what he was going to say)
